SAMR Model for Technology Integration
Definition
The SAMR Model is a framework created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. It categorizes four different degrees of classroom technology integration.
The letters "SAMR" stand for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.
Why?
By recognizing the degree of classroom technology integration, we can better assess the usefulness and effectiveness of a particular technology in the classroom.
How to?
Do
- Identify the intended degree of integration of a particular technology before using it in the classroom.
- Redefinition might NOT always be the goal.
- Think of it as a spectrum: from one-on-one replacement of traditional tools to technology that enables experiences that were not possible without it.
Do NOT
- Dismiss a technology simply because it does not lead us all the way through the model.
- Think of the model as a progression.
